| PKCD-312 | WENDELL BRUNIOUS WITH THE DAVE DONOHOE BAND | "West End Blues" | Born in the mid '50s into one of New Orleans' leading musical families Wendell Brunious is a truly formidable trumpet player and his appearance with the Dave Donohoe Band at the 2007 Keswick Festival was sensational. Dave's friendship with Wendell goes back over 20 years and they first played together in Preservation Hall many years earlier. The band line-up on this superb CD is Wendell Brunious trumpet (on 10 tracks); Teddy Fullick trumpet (6 tracks); Frank Brooker reeds; Dave Donohoe trombone; Tom Kincaid piano; Mal Horne banjo; Jim Swinnerton bass; Bill Evans drums. The tunes are:- Put On Your Old Gray Bonnet, Bogalousa Strut, Just A Closer Walk With Thee, Mama Don't Allow, Route 66, 'deed I Do, Help Me Make It Through The Night, Ain't She Sweet, This Year's Kisses, You Never Can Tell, West End Blues, Oh Lady Be Good, Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans. The last track is particularly poignant; Wendell Brunious, like many New Orleans musicians, had to leave his home in the Crescent City, after Hurricane Katrina, to make a new life elsewhere and now lives in Sweden. | PKCD-313 | THE MILLENNIUM EAGLE JAZZ BAND | "Midnight Choo Choo" | This is the first CD for P.E.K. by this very popular and exciting Midlands-based traditional jazz band who have deservedly gained a reputation for being one of the hottest bands on the scene. The band was formed in 2005 out of Matt Palmer's Millennium Jazz Band and the former Eagle Jazz Band. This CD was recorded live at Sutton Coldfield Jazz Club in March 2007. The line-up is Peter Brown trumpet; Matt Palmer reeds; Andy Holdorf trombone; Chris Etherington banjo; Brian Lawrence bass; Julyan 'Baby Jools' Aldridge drums. | PKCD-314 | THE KEN COLYER LEGACY NEW ORLEANS JAZZ BAND | "Taking Steps" | It was a great pleasure for me to record this superb band for their second CD, just ten months after their first (PKCD-300), which received a rave review in Just Jazz Magazine. This is truly a top-class band with some of Britain's best New Orleans-style musicians - the line-up is the same as on PKCD-300. The CD was recorded - not live - in March 2007 and the tunes are:- Any Time, Working Man Blues, Does Jesus Care, Under The Bamboo Tree, Smile Darn Ya Smile, Franklin St Blues, My Darling, Indiana, Mabel's Dream, When I Leave The World Behind, The Minstrel Man, I Don't Want To Walk Without You, Pretty Audrey, Joplin's Sensation, My Old Kentucky Home, Oh How I Miss You Tonight, Don't Give Up The Ship. | PKCD-315 | MARTIN BENNETT'S OLD GREEN RIVER BAND | "Dusty Old Road" | This new CD by Martin's excellent and distinctive N.O.-style band was recorded live at Bradford-on-Avon jazz club in June 2007. Great jazz club - great session! The line-up is unchanged since their last CD (PKCD-298) except that Dave Copperwaite replaces Dave Clennell on trumpet (good to see 'Copper' again after a gap of several years). The tunes are:- My Memphis Baby, Pink Champagne, Any Time, Meet Me Somewhere In Your Dreams, Davenport Blues, Junko Partner, Perdido, Sweethearts On Parade, Dusty Old Road, Smiles, Jacob's Ladder, The Last Mile Of The Way. | PKCD-316 | TONY ORESHKO TRIO WITH JOHN HALLAM | "In Cahoots" | Sometimes, in the world of jazz, musicians come together, often by chance, who inspire one another. The combination of John Hallam with the Tony Oreshko Trio is just such a coming together. Together they conspire to create moments of intense excitement, melancholy, humour and passion and others of serene beauty. This CD was recorded live at the Keswick Jazz Festival in May 2007. The line-up is Tony Oreshko guitar; Pete Berryman rhythm guitar; Marcus Vergette double bass and John Hallam clarinet and tenor sax. The tunes are:- Avalon, Swing 42, The Girl From Ipanema, Sweet Sue - Just You, La Promenade, Nuages, There Will Never Be Another You, Satin Doll, China Boy, A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square, The Sheik Of Araby. | PKCD-317 | PETER CARLTON'S JAZZ FRIENDS | "Malt House 2007" | This popular band plays regularly at The Malt House in Birmingham's canal district (a beautiful setting by the way), where this CD was recorded at one of their Sunday lunch-time sessions. The band's music embraces many styles of jazz from Dixieland to Mainstream and Swing. The band line-up is Tony Pipkin trumpet; Peter Carlton clarinet and tenor sax; Roger Rae trombone; Rod Kelly or Harry Matts piano; Bob Boucher double bass; Allan Jones drums.
