Ref: Band / Artist: Album Title: Notes:
PKCD-187 THE RAE BROTHERS JAZZ BAND"At Your Request" Recorded live at Bude 2001, the emphasis is, as always, on ensemble playing; the whole band plays superbly throughout. The line-up is the same as on PKCD-161, and the tunes include:- Put On Your Old Gray Bonnet, Little Old Wine Drinker Me, Sister Kate, Love Songs Of The Nile, Royal Telephone, My Old Kentucky Home, Carry Me Back To Old Virginny, Dusty Rag, Should I, When The Swallows Come Back To Capistrano, Put On Your Ta Ta Little Girlie, Way Down Upon The Swanee River, 'deed I Do, Any Time. (73 mins)
PKCD-189 VINTAGE JAZZ"Further Up The Track" This CD by one of London's hottest and most popular bands was recorded live at Bude 2001. This is their second recording with Dave Waskett on cornet and here they are joined by Chris Marney on banjo, otherwise the personnel is the same as "Back On Track" - PKCD-168. The tunes include:- Stevedore Stomp, Algiers Strut, Chimes Blues, Storyville Blues, Canal St Blues, Carry Me Back To Old Virginny, Memphis Blues, Some Of These Days, Faraway Blues, Flat Foot, Blue Blood Blues, Sweet Sue, Texas Moaner, Wa Wa Wa (70 mins)
PKCD-190 HARLEM"Renaissance" I am thrilled to present this CD from Paul Munnery's superb 1920s/30s big band - recorded in October 2001. It is an amazing accomplishment by Paul to have kept an 11 piece orchestra together for more than 20 years, though there have been personnel changes of course. The format of the band with 3 trumpets, trombone, 3 reeds, piano, banjo, bass and drums remains constant, as does the source of their musical inspiration - Ellington, Henderson, Luis Russell etc - and the wonderfully exciting sound they produce. The 17 tracks on this CD include:- Heebie Jeebies, Feeling Drowsy, Rent Party Blues, Close Fit Blues, Feeling The Spirit, Donegal Cradle Song, Sweet And Hot, Misty Morning, New Call Of The Freaks, Singing The Blues, You're Just My Type, Everybody Shout. (66mins)
PKCD-192 THE GOIN' HOME BAND with Viv Rogers"Hymns And Spirituals" Here is the second CD by this superb New Orleans-style band, recorded live at a church concert in November 2001. The lineup is the same as PKCD-137. Viv Rogers sings on four of the 16 tracks. The tunes include:- Lord Lord Lord, Amazing Grace, His Eye Is On The Sparrow, Sweet Fields, In The Garden, Walking With The King, The Old Rugged Cross, Jesus Keep Me Near The Cross, What A Friend We Have In Jesus. (74mins)
PKCD-193 THE LOUISIANA SHAKERS"Making Runs" Here is their second CD for P.E.K. Sound, recorded at two live sessions during their four month tour of Europe and UK in 2001. Their distinctively earthy "down-home" style of New Orleans Jazz has made them a hit all over Europe. The line-up is Lindsay Meech tpt, Nick Polites cl, Charlie Powell tb, Ashley Keating bjo, Andy Ross bs and Kevin Bolton dms. The tunes include:- Making Runs, L.O.V.E., Kid Thomas Boogie, When You And I Were Young Maggie, Jambalaya On The Bayou, Anytime, Panama, I Got Drunk Last Night Baby. (69 mins)
PKCD-194 THE LAINS BARN ALLSTARS"The Rascals Meet The Top Brass" For musical ability and all-round entertainment this band is very hard to beat. But, because they don't have drums and they do have two saxes and a guitar, some jazz fans (without even hearing them) decide it's not their 'cup of tea'. This is a great pity; it really is a superb CD of top quality happy jazz. The line-up is Mike Wills and Tony Isaacs cl & saxes, Perry Lock pno, Dave Moorwood gtr & bjo, Geoff Hull bs. They are joined by two outstanding guests, Ben Cummings tpt and Micky Cooke tb. The tunes on this live CD include:- Swing That Music, Basin St Blues, Keeping Out Of Mischief Now, Maryland My Maryland, Wabash Blues, Indian Summer. (74mins)
