| PKCD-196 | TAFF'S NEW ORLEANS STOMPERS | "Echoes of the Crescent City" | Late in 2001 when Taff and Connie Lloyd were in New Orleans with Norman and Sarah Thatcher they had the idea to form a new band to play old-style New Orleans jazz. They soon completed the line-up with Jeff Milner tb, Keith Box cl and Peter Wright bs. This live recording was one of their first appearances together, and if it is anything to go by the band has a bright future! The other, regular, band members are Alan Robinson cl, Len Baldwin tb, Micky Ashman bs and Malc Murphy dms. The result is I believe a huge success. The music she sang comes from the golden era of popular song-writing, which sadly, in the world of traditional jazz, is largely neglected. Many of the songs have quite wonderful lyrics and often complex and very beautiful melodies.
