Martin Bennett's Old Green River Band - "One For My Baby"
Catalogue Note:
It's hard to believe this band is only just over a year old. They sound as if they've been playing
together for much, much longer. I think it's one of the most exciting bands I've heard in ages;
their music could be described as' New Orleans meets R'n'B'. It is quite different from any of the
'run-of-the-mill' New Orleans-style bands; and I think few bands come closer to the true spirit of
New Orleans in their music. This CD was recorded live at a thrilling session near Macclesfield in
December 2003. The line-up (slightly changed since their last CD) is Stan Williams trumpet,
Tony Denton baritone sax, Eric Brierley trombone, Martin Bennett piano, Louis Lince banjo,
Jim Swinnerton bass, Pete Cotterill drums. and the tunes are:- Indiana, You Are My Sunshine,
Tin Roof Blues, All Of Me, The Tennessee Waltz, Algiers Strut, Wabash Blues, Baby Face, Saint James'
Infirmary, Some Of These Days, See See Rider, Bye And Bye. (75mins)
