Richard Leach's 7 Stars Of Jazz - "Bordering On The Welsh"
Catalogue Note:
Here is the first CD by a brand new band with, I'm sure, a great future ahead of it. One of the more
neglected areas of jazz today is the Chicago/Dixieland style of music played so brilliantly in the 1950s
to 1970s by the legendary Alex Welsh Band. Almost by chance in 2003 Richard Leach (better known perhaps as
trombonist in the Pete Allen Band) assembled a band to play just this style of jazz - the other band
members are John Burnett trumpet, Rod Chambers reeds, Mike Graver piano, Brian Mellor guitar, Len Thwaites
bass and Brian Price drums - truly a Midlands all-star line-up. This CD was recorded live just before
Christmas 2003 and the tunes are:- S'wonderful, Sweeping The Blues Away, That's A Plenty, Wrap Your
Troubles In Dreams, Willow Weep For Me, I've Got A Feeling I'm Falling, Out Of Nowhere, I Want A Little
Girl, As Long As I Live, Sweet Lorraine, Once In A While, Georgia On My Mind, Oh Baby. (73mins)
