"Capturing the best in British Traditional Jazz"

The John Maddocks Jazzmen -
"Lucky For Some"

Catalogue Note:
A new CD from the John Maddocks band is always a welcome treat and this one, recorded in June 2004 is especially exciting. John’s band has gone through some personnel changes in recent times, with the retirement of Alan Potton and Brian Stockley from the band, and the partial retirement of Tony Farr. John seems to have struck gold in his replacement for Alan Potton. Peter Wilkinson is a fine musician with a lovely tone who has slotted effortlessly into the trumpet chair. Sid Bailey and Tony Farr now share the trombone duties, while Brian Barker’s drumming ensures the rhythm section maintains its traditionally high standard. The other band members are as on their previous CDs. Recorded (not live) in June 2004 this new CD has 13 tracks, four of which are original tunes written by band members and recorded here for the very first time:- Dans Les Rues d’Antibes, Hymn To Her, Cry Baby Cry, Guess You Were Right All Along, Crescent Strut, Fair And Square In Love, Good Morning Blues, Black And Blue, The Second Line, Novelty Bounce, Big Lip Blues, Hiawatha Rag. (70 mins)
