"Capturing the best in British Traditional Jazz"

Derek Winters & Brian Carrick - Yellow Dog -
"Painting The Clouds"

Catalogue Note:
It’s no secret that, musically, New Orleans-style jazz is my first love, and I think this is one of the best N.O.-style CDs I’ve heard in ages. It was recorded at Bude 2005 just three days after Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans, and just as the full impact of the destruction was becoming clearer to us. Yellow Dog is a new band led by Derek Winters on trumpet and with Brian Carrick (clarinet and tenor sax), Dave Soby (piano), Stu Morrison (banjo), John Boyett (double bass) and Cees Hoogkamer (drums). You’ll notice there is no trombone in the line-up; I think this gives more freedom to Derek and Brian - they play so well together! The tunes on this marvellous CD are:- Put On Your Old Gray Bonnet, The Beer Barrel Polka, Born To Lose, Uptown Bumps, One Sweet Letter From You, Chinatown My Chinatown, Over The Waves, In The Evening, Painting The Clouds With Sunshine, Valentine, Mama Inez, Tell The Lord I’m Coming Home Someday. A bonus is the excellent sleeve-notes written by Chris Barber. (67 mins)
