Dave Moorwood's Big Bear Stompers - "The Emperor Strikes Back"
Catalogue Note:
Dave Moorwood is a most versatile musician. He never does anything by halves and all his bands are of the highest quality. Not the least of these is his Big Bear Stompers. Their last CD (PKCD-275 - March 2005) was recorded at Lains Barn, as was this new CD. Frisco Jazz is noted for its exuberance and energy and you have that aplenty here; a thrilling live session. The tunes are:- Brother Lowdown, Working Man Blues, On Revival Day, At The Christmas Ball, Steamboat Stomp,Fussy Mabel, All The Wrongs You've Done To Me, I Had Someone Else Before I Had You, Trombone Rag, Poor Papa, Emperor Norton's Hunch, If Someone Would Only Love Me, Do Something, Birmingham Bertha, Memphis Blues, Santa Claus Blues, Come On And Stomp Stomp Stomp. (78mins).
The band line-up is:- Ben Cummings and Tony Davis trumpets; Mike Wills clarinet & soprano sax; Graham Hughes trombone; Perry Lock piano; Dave Moorwood banjo; John Arthy sousaphone; Andy Crisp drums; Judy Eames vocals (on 6 tracks). Great CD!
